HCC Summer Job and Internship Fair

About This Project

The office of Internships and Job Services at Hagerstown Community College provides career-related experiences and workplace competencies to help students pursue their chosen careers. Once a year, the office organizes the Summer Jobs and Internships Fair to offer students opportunities to apply for open positions, and interview with potential employers on the spot. As a student ambassador, I collaborated with the planning process, led and executed the development and production of graphics.

Creating a Plan of Action

The first step was to plan the different stages of the event and consider timelines. I created an Excel sheet which contained all tasks, and the approximate time each of them would take to develop and implement in the context of the event.

With the master plan, I then created a Communications Plan by mapping all actions and marketing collateral were best to promote the event through all our channels.

Graphics

The next step was to create a graphic mark that would serve as starting point for all promotional materials. I chose to go with a colorful palette to attract our target made of young adults between the ages of 18 and 23. Next, I incorporated summer elements to make the design fresh and whimsical. With the design approved, I proceeded to apply it and convert it to different formats.

Flyers (8.5 in x 11 in)
Postcards (4.25 in x 5.5 in)
Table toppers (4 in x 5.2 in)
Facebook group header (851 x 315)
Animated PowerPoint (1024 x 768, 4:3 ratio)
Facebook Video
Channel 99 slide (1920 x 1080, 16:9)
T-Shirt

Production and Implementation

I prepared all final design files and sent them to our in-house print shop. When I received them, I went around campus and located all the promotional materials in strategic places, including the most visited areas and main bulletin boards. In many cases, I rearranged the flyers on the bulletin boards, so that ours could have a more prominent space. I knew we were successfully reaching our audience when I saw the postcards being picked up.

Day of the Event

The day of the event, I photographed all the stations and posted the pictures in our Facebook group. The recruiters were happy to post and shared the event with their network.
